Hart’s is one of Nottingham’s finest eateries renowned for its award-winning food and wine, excellent service and exquisite attention to detail. The heritage building, once a general hospital has been transformed into minimalist, light and airy space akin to a New York art gallery.
I tried out their afternoon tea this weekend accompanied by a friend which came highly recommended and was I not disappointed!
We started our experience with a beautifully chilled glass of Prosecco. This was shortly followed by our waitress delivering three tiers of sumptuous delicacies. The bottom tier comprised cheese scones and delicate sandwiches; smoked salmon and cream cheese, ham and English mustard and the obligatory cucumber fingers without which afternoon tea would not be complete. Above the savory layer was a selection of wonderful sugary treats. Brownies, macaroons, lemon tarts to name a few, although my favourite was undoubtedly the delicately crafted Eton mess.
We rounded off the afternoon by choosing from the extensive tea menu. I had a pot of Ali Shan Oolong which was very delicately floral with warm honey tones. The tea was presented as a herbaceous infusion and came with a little sand timer, set to 3 minutes, a really quirky touch!
Overall, a lovely experience in a luxurious setting. I would have preferred a bit more of the savoury and less of the sweet but that’s a personal preference. Would I go again? Yes, definitely
